Part of the bike route

Santa Fe Dam to Seal Beach

So on Monday(4/28), James Huang and I decided to bike from Santa Fe Dam to Seal Beach on a bike trail on Saturday(4/2). We approximated that it would take about 3 and a 1/2 hours and boy were we wrong. Here's a short summary of how it went:

Morning
9:00: Arrived at Santa Fe Dam, however we got dropped of at Encanto Park which basically added about 4 more miles to our tedious route giving a grand total of 35.3 miles whoop de doo.......

9:15 Let the Marathon begin!!!

10:30 after getting about an hour and a half into this biking spree I noticed my front tire was becoming rather flat....... touch* poke* noticed it was getting flat

10:45 while stopping for a rest, we asked a kind man if he had a bike pump. He did, but the head of the pump was not the same; so he pointed us to a Chevron near by

11:00 about at this time, we arrived at the Chevron and I asked a man working there to help pump my tire with air.... but to my surprise he started speaking Spanish at me and told me in Spanish that he didn't speak English which was rather BS because jobs at this kind of place usually required English. Couldn't think of that at the moment so I attempted to use my limited Spanish to communicate. "Yo necesito ayuda con mi bicicleta......" then I stopped because I didn't know how to say pump the bike with air.....epic fail. But anyhow got him to pump my bike with air and then continued onwards.

12:30 around this noon time we were about 20 miles into biking and then the intense burning started in our thighs. =(

1:00 gained about 5 more miles and hunger struck . So we biked off the bike trail and used the GPS I packed to find a nearby restaurant and decided on Yoshinoya. After glancing at the route for a few seconds and being the awesome navigator I was I directed us to go North which led us into Cerritos Auto Square well we were tired and needed a car(not really). After being yelled at by James, because he was a MUCH BETTER navigator, he took the lead and led us East which was going in the wrong direction as well........ Great Job!!!! by now we added another mile to our
enervating journey.

1:15 Finally ARRIVED at Yoshinoya or what was left of it......(which was nothing). At the same plaza we headed to CVS which was just across the street or so we thought. Apparently the CVS is opening on 4/4 which was 2 days away and the current CVS was still on the other side of the street. @#%@#$!#@

1:20 Gave up and just went to a gas station(Shell) to buy food and by now my tire was flat again...... sigh should have came more prepared. Decided to ask the Shell worker to help pump my bike but he was a douche and in an indirect manner he said no.

1:30 Back on the road with a semi flat tire........ Sublime, not to mention we were already an hour behind schedule. 10 miles more to go WHOOT or so we thought.

1:40 PAIN THIGHS UNBEARABLE.........

2:00 Now at this time we were near the beach with about 8 miles(going at this time at 8 mph it may sound slow but the given situation was horrible) to go with a great breeze of wind................... HEADWIND !#@%#$^%#@$Y%$%

3:00 By around here we were beyond dead.....well our thighs were. Adding to this painful situation the wind was blowing against us at a million miles per hour. Adding to that situation my front tire was about 75% flat. JUST GREAT

3:20 I SEE THE BEACH!!!!! WE ARRIVED 3 hrs late due to much environmental conflicts along the way but overall GREAT EXPERIENCE =)

Overall Statistics:
Max: 27.63 mph
Average: 10.23 mph
Total Distance: 38.49miles
time w/o stopping: 3:37:00
total time w/ stopping: 6:00:00 approx.(due to mostly the wind being like a force 9 gale -_-)

Some recommendations for this trip includes:
3 bottles of water
Sunscreen(skin burned after taking a hot shower)
